LinkBack is an open source technology for Mac OS X that allows applications to create and store content links. This means that when a user pastes content from any LinkBack-enabled application into another they are getting more than just the content. They are also getting an embedded object that acts as a link to the source application. Once established this link can be used at any time to launch the source application and make changes to the content. When edits are complete users save the document and the pasted content is automatically refreshed.

For Chartsmith users this means they can link their charts, via copy and paste into applications like Nisus Writer Express, OmniGraffle, and Stone Create. With a 3rd party plug-in, LinkBack even works for Apple's Keynote. Once the link is establised users can at any time double-click the pasted chart and Chartsmith will launch if needed and load the chart for editing. When edits are complete save the chart and the original chart is automatically updated. It's simple yet powerful, exactly what you expect from Mac OS X
